Lesson: How to Draw a Crab
We'll start with simple shapes & lines, then add details more towards the end of the lesson. It's a good idea not to get too hung up on drawing details at the start of any drawing. Outline the Carapace
Start by drawing a wide pointy shape for the crab's carapace.
Add the Eyes
Add two small circles for the eyes. Then, erase any overlapping lines.
Draw the Spots
Draw the spotted pattern on the crab’s carapace.
Attach the Merus
Attach the segment of the crab’s claws called the merus.
Add the Carpus
Form the wrists of the crab’s claws known as the carpus.
Outline the Propodus
Outline the palms of the crab called the propodus.
Draw the Claws
Draw the crab’s large, pointy claws.
Attach the Walking Legs
Draw three pairs of thin, walking legs attached to the crab’s body
Form the Swimming Legs
Form the crab’s swimming legs with a flat tip.
Add the Shoreline
Let’s create a beach background to our drawing by adding wavy lines to draw a shoreline.
Draw the Sandy Texture:
Draw the sandy texture by adding dots.
Shade the Eyes
Fill in the eyes with black. Then, add a white shine to the eyes.
Color the Crab
Use bright shades of red to color the crab’s shell and legs. Now, fill in the spots with dark red.
Add Color to the Sand
Color the sand with light shades of yellow.
Fill in the Water
Fill in the water with a light blue color.
