Lesson: How to Draw a Seal
Okay friend, today we're learning how to draw a seal in 15 steps. This sea creature is all about simple shapes when we start out. We'll eventually draw the details like flippers and whiskers. Don't stress, just follow along step-by-step. Grab your art materials and let's get started on this seal!
Outline the Head
First, draw a curved line to outline the seal’s head.
Add the Snout
Draw the bumpy shape of its snout. Then, add the triangular outline of its nose.
Draw the Eyes
Above the snout, draw two small circles for the eyes.
Add the Mouth
Draw a curved line below the snout to form the mouth.
Attach the Whiskers
Attach long, curving whiskers above its eyes and on its snout.
Outline the Body
Form the elongated shape of the seal’s body.
Draw the Rear Flippers
Attach the seal’s rear flippers to the end of its body.
Attach the Front Flippers
Draw two long front flippers attached to the seal’s torso.
Add the Sea Ice
Create a curved line to form the sea ice. Next, outline smaller blocks of ice in front of the seal.
Draw the Sea
Draw a long, straight line to outline the horizon. Then, add short, wavy lines to draw the waves in the water.
Outline the Clouds
Outline the large, fluffy clouds above the horizon.
Shade the Seal’s Body
Use a dark gray color to shade the head, body, and flippers. Next, fill in the eyes and nose with black. Add a small white shimmer to its eyes. Now, color the snout with white and its mouth with red.
Add Shading to the Seal’s Body
Fill in the seal’s underbelly with a lighter shade of gray. Then, add gray spots all around its body.
Fill in the Sea Ice
Fill in the sea ice with white and light blue. Then, create shadows beneath the seal and smaller ice blocks with a slightly darker shade of blue.
Color the Background
Color the sky with light blue and the clouds with white. Then, fill in the water with a vibrant shade of blue.
